I have a thing for tree huts. Whether in the shape of Terunobu Fujimoris fantastic elevated tree houses Takasugi-An or Alain Laurens “Cabanes Perchées”, I love them.
In Madison Square Garden, right now, there is an exhibition by Tadashi Kawamatis with tree huts climbing the trees. Kawamati sees his tree huts as a cross between the architecture of shelter and the insertion of private objects into public space.
Interesting thoughts! I’m going to check them out as son as I can.
The art exhibition is on view until New Years Eve so there is still time to go there. I even heard that with a bit of luck you might run into Mr Kawamata himself. He is supposedly there every day from 12:30-1:00 PM.
The Mad. Sq Art is a free art gallery presented by the Madison Square Park Conservancy. The gallery has no walls. It is completely out in the open space and it is accessible to the public. It is situated in the historic 6.2-acre park located in Midtown Manhattan at 5th Avenue and 23rd Street.
