The City Concealed: Tombs & Catacombs of Green-Wood Cemetery from Thirteen.org on Vimeo.
The Green-Wood Cemetery is featured in the second episode if Channel 13s online video series The City Concealed.
The Brooklyn Cemetery was America’s leading tourist attractions in the 19th century with 500,000 people were passing through its gates every year.
The number of tourists has now dramatically declined but the Green-Wood Cemetery still has a lot to offer.
It is a remarkable arboretum, wildlife sanctuary, sculpture garden, a place of architecture, landscape design, and history.
The cemetery is open to visitors everyday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., weather permitting.

It seems strange that a cemetery can be a tourist attraction, though it does look a very tranquil and beautiful place.
it has been officially recognized as a National Historic Landmark 5 years ago. first in new york if im not mistaken. Quite unique actually. As Rich puts in, It is quite out of the ordinary for a cemetery to be considered as a tourist attraction. But the Green-Wood Cemetery really is awe-inspiring. Why, if not for the graves, one would forget that it’s a cemetery.

We’re from Illinois and my family and I are planning to visit New York in the summer next year. The Green-Wood Cemetery looks like a wonderful place to visit in Brooklyn. I will add it up to our itinerary should we go near Brooklyn. Thanks for sharing!
