Shakespeare in the Park 2009 kicked off this year’s season on June 10 with Anne Hathaway as star in Twelfth Night.  The play will run until July 12 .   The classic Greek tragedy, The Bacchae, by Euripedes, is also in line with an August 11-30 playdate,  Tuesdays thru Sundays at 8pm.  Philip Glass provides the score.

Tickets are free  but may be hard to get.  You will have three options on how  to get them.

1. Pick up

You can pick up free tickets  at the Delacorte Theater in Central   Park  beginning 1 pm on performance day (first come, first served).  Lines start  to form by morning so  if you camp out, you’ll have a better chance of getting those coveted stubs.  Before you do, visit publictheater.org for strategic waiting spots.

2. Online

Online is another place to get tickets but the mechanics can be more tricky. From midnight to 1pm of the day of your chosen performance, sign up at publictheater.org. Submit a request for upto two tickets and log on to the same site from 1pm to 6pm that same day to find out if you’ve been granted the tickets. People are picked at random so luck is all you’ll ever need.

3. Pay for your tickets.

Be a SUMMER SUPPORTER and help bring Shakespeare’s timeless literary classics to the people. Click here to reserve for paid tickets at @170 each. By paying for your tickets, you are helping organizers fund Shakespeare in the Park through the whole summer of 2009.

There will be no tickets at 425 La Fayette Street this year because part of the building’s exterior is under construction.
