Raise your heartbeat and raise a glass at Full Circle.
January–’tis the season for new gym memberships, diet crazes, and failed promises. If detox isn’t a word that fits in your vocabulary, or you’re looking to burn some extra calories without sacrificing your social habits, here are some NYC bars where you can work up a sweat while refreshing your thirst at the same time:
Grace Hotel: Take a mental vacation from the urban jungle at this Midtown hotel offering a heated swimming pool complete with a swim-up bar. Sure, the pool is only three-feet deep, but that’s probably to discourage drinking and drowning. 125 W. 45th St.
Swing 46 Jazz & Supper Club: A throwback to the days of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, Swing 46 is a place to kick up your heels to the sounds of a 16-piece band. Reward yourself for getting that much closer to “Dancing With the Stars” with dinner and cocktails. Lessons are $12 Sundays-Thursdays; $15 on Fridays and Saturdays. 349 W. 46th St.
Johnny Utah’s: Hang onto your hat and ride out your cowboy or cowgirl fantasies on one of the most popular mechanical bull rides in the city. Along with Southwestern food, Johnny Utah’s offers a courage-inducing cocktail menu and a wide selection of whiskeys, tequilas, wine, and beer to keep your joints limber. 25 W. 51st St.
Union Hall: This sophisticated Park Slope hotspot has it all–long bar, library-like lounging, raging fireplace, basement stage, and two regulation-sized bocce ball courts. Take note that this place gets crowded on weekends, so you might get sweaty without much exertion. 702 Union St., Brooklyn.
Full Circle: This new South Williamsburg bar is dedicated to the sport of skee-ball. Okay, so maybe this game doesn’t burn tons of calories, but it is tons of fun and it’s much cheaper than bowling. And in classic Brooklyn style, look for $2 hot dogs in addition to a decent beer selection. 318 Grand St, Brooklyn.
