When a gift challenges another, a greater High Line is built. Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller of the Diller – von Furstenberg Family Foundation recently hosted a Friends of the High Line capital raising event and announced a $10 million challenge gift. It didn’t take long to find their match. Another couple, Philip and Lisa Maria Falcone, quickly took on the challenge with an equally whopping offer of $10 million which the Friends gratefully accepted.

A whole decade of dedicated planning and skillful execution pays off as the High Line’s Section 1 (from Gansevoort Street to 20th Street) opened Monday, June 8, for a public preview of the park which remains under construction. Friends of the High Line couldn’t thank their sponsors enough, from civilian volunteers to elected officials, who vigorously advanced the High Line cause and contributed generously to its initial success.
